The browser has seen constant improvement over the years and the current iteration (Safari 13) is fast and loaded with features. Safari 13 arrived on Macs in September 2019. Jan 02, 2017 Can anyone suggest a secure web browser that will work on my iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8? When Apple decided to stop security updates for Safari I downloaded Firefox as my browser. I now understand Firefox are also stopping security updates for Snow Leopard, and along with Safari also suggest I download El Capitan to keep my Mac secure. Having Issues with MAC web browsers? Current supported MAC versions: MAC OS X 10.11 (El Capitan): Safari 9.x (Current stable version), Chrome (Current stable version) — MAC OS X 10.10 (Yosemite): Safari 8.x (Current stable version), Chrome (Current stable version Supported.).
I do realize the irony of what I'm bringing up here.
As of beta 2, my system defaults the web browser to Safari. Navigating to System Preferences>General>Default web browser shows 'Safari' as the default. If I change it to 'firefox' close settings and re-open it appears to stay as firefox. However, clicking a link in an app (such as twitter) will still open safari. When I re-open the System Preferences I find it's reverted back to Safari.
When I set the default setting to 'Chrome' even closing System Preferences and re-opening shows it has reverted to Safari. In practice the system is always using Safari. This wasn't happening prior to the beta 2 release that I noticed.
That's all I've got. If there's a more helpful way for me to provide information or dig into what's happening a bit more feel free to point me in that direction. ?
Which Web Browser Is Current For El Capitan Version
Thanks!
